I removed the original zip and rebuilt the back with corset loops and a matching modesty panel. The new opening needed to sit naturally with the existing bodice, so the placement and width were adjusted during the fitting before the back was finished.
For this restyling project, I removed the original zip and made a new corset back with loops and a matching panel. The aim was not only to make the dress wearable, but to make the new back detail look intentional, as if it belonged to the original design.
SHORTENING THE HEM
The gown was also too long, so I shortened it to work with the client’s height and the shoes she planned to wear.
RESTYLING THE FEATHER STRAPS
The original straps had a single line of feather trim. The client wanted them to feel fuller, so I added another layer of feathers to build more volume around the neckline and shoulders.
THE FINISHED DRESS
The final restyling combined three changes: a new corset back, a shortened hem and fuller feather straps.
