This wedding dress already fitted beautifully through the bodice, but the original zip back was too restrictive for the client. We decided to replace the zip with a corset back, giving more flexibility through the waist and back while keeping the original lace and shape of the gown.
BEFORE I START
Before changing the back, I first checked how the bodice fitted through the bust, waist and neckline.
A corset conversion changes the tension across the whole back of the dress, so I needed to make sure the new opening would work with the existing structure rather than simply replacing the zip.
REBUILDING THE BACK
I removed the original zip, opened the back and rebuilt it with corset loops, lacing and a modesty panel.The original lace was retained and repositioned where necessary so the new back sat naturally with the existing bodice.
THE FINISHED BACK
The finished corset back gave the dress more flexibility in fit while keeping the original lace and overall character of the gown.
